Dragon boating is a fun-filled, adrenaline-pumping water sport. In competition, boats carry ornately carved dragon heads and tails, and crews of up to twenty paddlers race over roughly 250m to 500m courses.
During dragon boat season the VRC paddle teams train and enter Hong Kong races including the VRC Deep Water Bay Regatta, Lamma 500, the Hong Kong China International Dragon Boat Festival, the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Championships, and the Kellet Island Cup.
Running since 1999, the Deep Water Bay Regatta is a competitive 500m race on Hong Kong’s south side, usually each spring, with Open, Women, Mix, and Junior divisions. Watch the event video on YouTube (search “VRC Deep Water Bay Regatta”) and read the full history on vrc.com.hk.
